Kevin’s North Country Notes – November 17, 2011

I hope you’ve all had as good a week as I have. Last Sunday we had a great time with the church youth as we ate lunch together and then packed shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child. A special thanks to my wife, Carolyn, for getting everything organized. We packed 52 shoeboxes, all filled with the gifts you provided. Thanks you!

This Sunday our Thanksgiving Love Offering will go to help cover the shipping for those boxes we packed. There will be an envelope in each program if you’d like to give toward this. Samaritans Purse organizes Operation Christmas Child and estimates the cost to deliver each box to it’s final destination to be about $7. Everything we receive for the love offering will be sent to help cover the costs of delivering shoeboxes around the world. You can read all about this great project here.

North Country Note – November 11, 2011

Carolyn and I walked at sunrise today. We didn’t actually see the sunrise. What we did enjoy seeing was the first snow of the season. It was sticking to the trees and anything else that had room for snowflakes to make little piles. God gives us such rich blessings in creation to enjoy and our senses to enjoy them. Our brisk walk was a wonderful start to the day.

I’ve been trying to walk more regularly with Carolyn and I have to admit that our hour long walks do much for my mood and energy, and I find myself more focused and efficient in my work afterward. I’m also thankful to God for making us so that getting up and moving and getting fresh air improves our strength and ability to serve Him.

North Country Note – November 4, 2011

It’s been a beautiful week here in northern Michigan. Carolyn walks for an hour almost every day and I took the opportunity to join her on three mornings this week. Some days were overcast. Today was bright and sunny. Every day was crisp and beautiful. God sure knew best when He gave us fresh air and sky. And we are especially blessed to live in such beautiful surroundings. I’d suggest you get out with your spouse, your kids or a neighbor and go for a walk, and soon, before the white stuff comes — you’ll be glad you did. A brisk walk in fresh air is one of the many ways God created to encourage your heart.

Kevin’s North Country Notes

Some of you may remember when I wrote my weekly “North Country Notes”. That was a few years ago. Well, I’m bringing them back, but they’re going to be different. I’ve decided to share with you a weekly North Country Note for the purpose of highlighting some of the great things that God has been doing in or around the church. God has been and continues to be so gracious to us as a church and I’d like for as many as possible to know just what HE is doing. So, here goes…
