By the Mercies of God

I’ve been thinking about the mercies of God this week.

In Romans 12:1 Paul writes, “I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.”

Sometimes when we set out to do something we head off with good intentions, but often, in our own strength.

We forget about the mercies of God. But we need to remember.

So when Paul tells believers to make themselves a living sacrifice to God he prefaces that statement with “by the mercies of God”.

God’s mercies give us hope and help.

You can find them spoken of all over the Bible. But, here’s an example from Lamentations 3:21-24.

“But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. ‘The LORD is my portion,’ says my soul, ‘therefore I will hope in him.’”

Do you see hope mentioned twice in these verses?

We have hope because God’s mercies never end.

We have hope because the steadfast love of the Lord never ceases.

We have hope because great is God’s faithfulness. And that’s especially clear in the face of Jesus Christ.

And it’s by God’s mercy that we are privileged to serve here at Camp Barakel.

His mercies sustain us every day and we know that we depend on Him.

I hope you will dwell on the mercies of God and look for them always as you read your Bible.

Thank you for your faithful support and prayers for us in the work here. You are also another of God’s many mercies on us and we thank Him for you.
