Why all the chatter about Love Wins? When Rob Bell’s videos promoting his new book hit the internet a couple of weeks ago there was a huge reaction from the evangelical community and for good reason. I carefully read Love Wins last week and simply stated, Rob Bell’s gospel is not the Gospel of the Bible. His work sadly misses the mark of Gospel clarity and, I believe, falls far short of convincing a skeptic that he needs Christ. But maybe that wasn’t Bell’s purpose.
If you want to get a better grasp of what’s going on with this book and why all the ruckus I have a couple of interviews to share with you and a few reviews for you to read.
Why take the time to watch and listen to the interviews and read the reviews you ask? While it’s true that there are a lot of books littered with bad theology floating around, you should be informed about this particular book. Because of the level of attention it’s gained you may have a friend reading it and believing it soon. You should be prepared to share the truth with them.
Here’s the first stop for you. It’s the interview of Rob Bell by Martin Bashir on MSNBC. The interview is a pretty clear presentation of the problems with Bell’s theology in Love Wins.

After watching that interview you’ll want to listen to this interview of Martin Bashir on The Paul Edwards Program
And the following are likely the most important reviews to help round out your understanding of the issues at hand:
- We Have Seen All This Before: Rob Bell and the (Re)Emergence of Liberal Theology — a must read by Dr. Al Mohler
- God Is Still Holy and What You Learned in Sunday School Is Still True: A Review of “Love Wins” by Kevin DeYoung — this is long but it’s an investment of time you should make
- Rob Bell’s Love Wins: A Response by Justin Taylor — if Kevin DeYoung’s review is too long for you, then Justin Taylor’s summary of Kevin’s review is helpful
- Love Wins – A Review of Rob Bell’s New Book — Tim Challies points to “The Toxic Subversion Of Jesus’ Message”
- UPDATE: Two Cents, and Not a Penny More, on Love Wins — Greg Gilbert notes a “handful of the things that Bell gets flat wrong in his book”
- UPDATE: Read John MacArthur’s advice: Rob Bell: a Brother to Embrace, or a Wolf to Avoid?
- UPDATE: another post by John MacArthur: Rob Bell: “Evangelical and orthodox to the bone?” Hardly.
